Contemporary İstanbul, the premier art fair of the region supported by its main sponsor Akbank Private Banking and its associate sponsor Zorlu Centre, opened its doors to art lovers on November, 24th and was open until the 27th. This edition brings together 90 contemporary art galleries from 20 countries, half of them international, featuring art initiatives, projects and publications along with art institutions in addition to the exhibitions.

Celebrating its 6th anniversary in 2011, Contemporary Istanbul is Turkey’s most comprehensive contemporary art event to date, expanding Istanbul’s cultural and artistic life to the world.
The premier art fair of the region opens its doors this year to art lovers on November 24-27 at Istanbul Congress Center, Exhibition Area and Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, Rumeli Hall. Contemporary Istanbul showcases contemporary paintings, sculptures, videos, photographs, installations and limited editions with the participation of national and foreign galleries. This edition brings together 90 contemporary art galleries from 20 countries, half of them international, featuring art initiatives, independent projects and publications along with art institutions in addition to exhibitions. 3000 contemporary artworks by 526 local and global artists are exhibited, more than 1000 collectors are visiting Contemporary Istanbul, more than 60.000 visitors are expected in CI 2011.

Contemporary Istanbul which will be held on 25-28 November in İstanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, announced the values of the artworks. This year appears to be the golden year of the Turkish Contemporary Artists regarding the total value of the artworks exhibited in the fair that is 50 million TL. Among the Turkish artists representing artworks valued at 30 million TL in total, Güneştekin attracts the attention with his total value of the artworks in "Religions" series, valued at 7.5 million TL. Güneştekin breaks a new record with his artwork called "Doors Opening to Sun" valued at 3.5 million TL. Comparing to last year's %59 of sale, this year %75-80 of the artworks are estimated to be sold by the Chairman of the board of directors of Contemporary Istanbul Ali Güreli. He also remarked that %70 of sale will be the works of Turkish artists.

The biggest contemporary art event in Turkey, Contemporary Istanbul sponsored by Akbank Private Banking celebrates its 5th Anniversary at Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, Rumeli Hall on November 25-28. Long-anticipated by the international contemporary art world and the Turkish art lovers, the event will bring together 37 galleries from abroad and 43 from Turkey showing 2,000 works by 420 artists.

Organized between December 3-6, 2009 with the participation of 307 artists and 73 galleries under the main sponsorship of Akbank Private Banking, Contemporary Istanbul Modern and Contemporary Art Event brought the national and international art lovers and investors together in Istanbul. During the event, it is observed that the participation and sales of the pieces are increased compared to the previous year and 52 thousand people visited the event, while 68 percent of the pieces exhibited were sold.

Contemporary Istanbul is meeting for the fourth time between December 3th and 6th with the art lovers and international contemporary art environment. Under the sponsorship of Akbank Private Banking, the event will take place at Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Centre where national and international galleries participate and contemporary art pieces will be exhibited.

Contemporary Istanbul continues to support contemporary art in different areas. The third of the conference series 'CI Dialogues' will be held in Berlin with the cooperation of Akademie der Künste. Prominent names from Turkey and Germany in the field of culture will contribute to the conference and this year's theme "Cosmopolitics" will be discussed from different points of view.
