CI Dialogues 'COSMOPOLITICS II: Berlin'

Contemporary Istanbul continues to support contemporary art in different areas. The third of the conference series 'CI Dialogues' will be held in Berlin with the cooperation of Akademie der Künste. Prominent names from Turkey and Germany in the field of culture will contribute to the conference and this year's theme "Cosmopolitics" will be discussed from different points of view.

As part of Contemporary Istanbul's social responsibility activities referred as "Special Projects" started in September 2008, the third conference of the "CI Dialogues" series will beheld in Berlin. This year's theme 'Cosmopolitics' will be discussed from different aspects. The conference will be held in Berlin in collaboration with Akedemie der Künste with the participation of different prominent names in the field of culture from Turkey and Germany.

The chairman of Contemporary Istanbul Mr. Ali Güreli, Akademie der Künste's Art Director Dr. Johannes Odenthal and the chief curator of the exhibition "Istanbul Next Wave, Simultaneity - Parallels – Opposites" which will open its doors to art lovers in Berlin in the same period, Çetin Güzelhan will make the opening speech. While Contemporary Istanbul's director Dr. Emin Mahir Balcıoğlu and Dr. Johannes Odenthal will moderate the panel, artist Bedri Baykam, author Mario Levi, politician Cem Özdemir, artist Marwan and sociologist Necla Kelek will participate to the conference as panelists. The event will take place at Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg building in Berlin on November, 14th, 2009 between 17.00- 20.00. After the panel Nezih Ünen's documentary film "Lost Songs of Anatolia" will be shown.

Cosmopolitism is described as a concept that combines together the reflections of a city's historical past to its future, multiculturalism, migration and the effects of globalization. At the conference, the impact of cosmopolitism on culture industry, on city identity, on art and especially on contemporary art as well as the impact of artists and art to cosmopolitism will be discussed. Having in common social, cultural, economic and political problems, the metropolises New York, Berlin and Istanbul will be the focus of discussion in the conference.
